Boris Johnson's Conservative party lost one of its strongholds in central England in a parliamentary by-election, according to official results released on Friday.
The Liberal Democrat candidate for the seat in North Shropshire, Helen Morgan, won by nearly 6,000 votes over the Conservative candidate, gathering about 47% of the vote, according to official results.
The Conservatives came second, followed by the candidate from the main opposition Labour party.
Turnout was far below that of the last election with just 46.3% of the constituency's electorate casting their vote, down from above 62% in the 2019 general election.
